  Ath。Thiswouldbeamodeoftestingandtrainingwhichwouldbewonderfullyeasyincomparisonwiththosenowinuse,andmightbeappliedtoasingleperson,ortoafew,orindeedtoanynumber;

  andhewoulddowellwhoprovidedhimselfwiththepotiononly,ratherthanwithanynumberofotherthings,whetherhepreferredtobebyhimselfinsolitude,andtherecontendwithhisfears,becausehewasashamedtobeseenbytheeyeofmanuntilhewasperfect;ortrustingtotheforceofhisownnatureandhabits,andbelievingthathehadbeenalreadydisciplinedsufficiently,hedidnothesitatetotrainhimselfincompanywithanynumberofothers,anddisplayhispowerinconqueringtheirresistiblechangeeffectedbythedraught-hisvirtuebeingsuch,thatheneverinanyinstancefellintoanygreatunseemliness,butwasalwayshimself,andleftoffbeforehearrivedatthelastcup,fearingthathe,likeallothermen,mightbeovercomebythepotion。
