Adisturbanceatanypoint，wherebyanygivenbranchofindustryfailstodoitsshareintheworkofthesystematlarge，immediatelyaffectstheneighbouringorrelatedbrancheswhichcomebeforeorafteritinthesequence，andistransmittedthroughtheirderangementtotheremoterportionsofthesystem。
Thedisturbanceisrarelyconfinedtothesingleplantorthesinglelineofproductionfirstaffected，butspreadsinsomemeasuretotherest。Adisturbanceatanygivenpointbringsmoreorlessderangementtotheindustrialprocessatlarge。Sothatanymaladjustmentofthesysteminvolvesalargerwastethansimplythedisablingofoneortwomembersinthecomplexindustrialstructure。
