  —thereadingoftheWill,valuationoftheestate,distributionofthelegacies——wereenactedoverthehead,asitwere,ofonenotyetofage。Jolyonwascremated。Byhisspecialwishnooneattendedthatceremony,orworeblackforhim。Thesuccessionofhisproperty,controlledtosomeextentbyoldJolyon’sWill,lefthiswidowinpossessionofRobinHill,withtwothousandfivehundredpoundsayearforlife。ApartfromthisthetwoWillsworkedtogetherinsomecomplicatedwaytoinsurethateachofJolyon’sthreechildrenshouldhaveanequalshareintheirgrandfather’sandfather’spropertyinthefutureasinthepresent,saveonlythatJon,byvirtueofhissex,wouldhavecontrolofhiscapitalwhenhewastwenty—one,whileJuneandHollywouldonlyhavethespiritoftheirs,inorderthattheirchildrenmighthavethebodyafterthem。

  Iftheyhadnochildren,itwouldallcometoJonifheoutlivedthem;andsinceJunewasfifty,andHollynearlyforty,itwasconsideredinLincoln’sInnFieldsthatbutforthecrueltyofincometax,youngJonwouldbeaswarmamanashisgrandfatherwhenhedied。AllthiswasnothingtoJon,andlittleenoughtohismother。
