  Himandtheotherpartystayedinthatvillage,andeverymorningDravotsatbythesideofoldImbra,andthepeoplecameandworshippedThatwasDravot’sorderThenalotofmencameintothevalley,andCarnehanDravotpicksthemoffwiththeriflesbeforetheyknewwheretheywas,andrunsdownintothevalleyandupagaintheotherside,andfindsanothervillage,sameasthefirstone,andthepeopleallfallsdownflatontheirfaces,andDravotsays,’Nowwhatisthetroublebetweenyoutwovillages?’

  Therewasnopeoplethere,andtheArmygotafraid;soDravotshootsoneofthem,andgoesontillhefindssomepeopleinavillage,andtheArmyexplainsthatunlessthepeoplewantstobekilledtheyhadbetternotshoottheirlittlematchlocks,fortheyhadmatchlocksWemakesfriendswiththepriest,andIstaystherealonewithtwooftheArmy,teachingthemenhowtodrill;andathunderingbigChiefcomesacrossthesnowwithkettledrumsandhornstwanging,becauseheheardtherewasanewGodkickingaboutCarnehansightsforthebrownofthemenhalfamileacrossthesnowandwingsoneofthemThenhesendsamessagetotheChiefthat,unlesshewishedtobekilled,hemustcomeandshakehandswithmeandleavehisarmsbehindTheChiefcomesalonefirst,andCarnehanshakeshandswithhimandwhirlshisarmsabout,sameasDravotused,andverymuchsurprisedthatChiefwas,andstrokesmyeyebrowsThenCarnehangoesalonetotheChief,andaskshimindumb-showifhehadanenemyhehated’I
