  OneeveningAnneandGilbertfinallywalkeddowntotheFourWindslight。Thedayhadbegunsombrelyingraycloudandmist,butithadendedinapompofscarletandgold。Overthewesternhillsbeyondtheharborwereamberdeepsandcrystallineshallows,withthefireofsunsetbelow。Thenorthwasamackerelskyoflittle,fierygoldenclouds。Theredlightflamedonthewhitesailsofavesselglidingdownthechannel,boundtoasouthernportinalandofpalms。Beyondher,itsmoteuponandincarnadinedtheshining,white,grasslessfacesofthesanddunes。Totheright,itfellontheoldhouseamongthewillowsupthebrook,andgaveitforafleetingspacecasementsmoresplendidthanthoseofanoldcathedral。Theyglowedoutofitsquietandgraynesslikethethrobbing,blood-redthoughtsofavividsoulimprisonedinadullhuskofenvironment。
