NatureandGracehavebeencontrastedwitheachotherinawaynotveryrespectfultotheDivineomnipotence。KingsandqueensreignbytheGraceofGod,butasweet,docile,piousdisposition,suchasisborninsomechildrenandgrowsupwiththem,——thatcongenitalgiftwhichgoodBishopHallwouldlookforinawife,——isattributedtoNature。InfactNatureandGrace,ashandledbythescholastics,arenothingmorenorlessthantwohostileDivinitiesinthePantheonofpost-classicalpolytheism。
