  Austrianaffairsarenotnowintheirnadir—point;alongwhilenowsincetheypassedthat。Austria,toallappearancedead,startedup,andbegantostrikeforherself,withsomesuccess,theinstantWalpole’sSOUP—ROYAL(thatfirst200,000pounds,followedsincebyabundancemore)gottoherlips。Touchedherpoorpalelips;

  andwenttinglingthroughher,likelifeandfieryelasticity,outofdeathbyinanition!Cardinalmoment,whichHistoryknows,butcanneverdate,exceptvaguely,sometimein1741;amongthelastactsofjudiciousWalpole。

  Austria,thankstoitsownKhevenhullersanditsEnglishguineas,wasalreadyrisinginvariousquarters:andnowwhenthePrussianAffairissettled,Austriaspringsupeverywherelikeanelasticbodywiththepressuretakenfromit;mountssteadily,monthaftermonth,inpracticalsuccess,andinheightofhumorinastillhigherratio。AndinthecourseofthenextTwoYearsrisestoagreatheightindeed。Here——snatched,whoknowswithwhatdifficulty,fromthatshorelessbottomlesssloughofanAustrian—
