TheprudenceofMahometdeclinedageneralengagement:thevalorofAliwassignalizedinsinglecombat;andthewarwasprotractedtwentydays,tillthefinalseparationoftheconfederates。Atempestofwind,rain,andhail,overturnedtheirtents:theirprivatequarrelswerefomentedbyaninsidiousadversary;andtheKoreish,desertedbytheirallies,nolongerhopedtosubvertthethrone,ortochecktheconquests,oftheirinvincibleexile。^134
