  havehadthatsuchasoundisconnectedwithacoach,Iamsaidtohearthecoach。Itisneverthelessevidentthat,intruthandstrictness,nothingcanbe;andthecoachisnotthenproperlyperceivedbysense,butsuggestedfromexperience。Solikewisewhenwearesaidtoseeared-hotbarofiron;thesolidityandheatoftheironarenottheobjectsofsight,butsuggestedtotheimaginationbythecolourandfigurewhichareproperlyperceivedbythatsense。Inshort,thosethingsaloneareactuallyandstrictlyperceivedbyanysense,whichwouldhavebeenperceivedincasethatsamesensehadthenbeenfirstconferredonus。Asforotherthings,itisplaintheyareonlysuggestedtothemindbyexperience,groundedonformerperceptions。But,toreturntoyourcomparisonofCaesar\'spicture,itisplain,ifyoukeeptothat,youmustholdtherealthings,orarchetypesofourideas,arenotperceivedbysense,butbysomeinternalfacultyofthesoul,asreasonormemory。I

  evenwiththisearth,whichwasalmostsliptfrommythoughtsandlostinthecrowdofworlds。Isnotthewholesystemimmense,beautiful,gloriousbeyondexpressionandbeyondthought!Whattreatment,then,dothosephilosophersdeserve,whowoulddeprivethesenobleanddelightfulscenesofall?HowshouldthosePrinciplesbeentertainedthatleadustothinkallthevisiblebeautyofthecreationafalseimaginaryglare?Tobeplain,canyouexpectthisScepticismofyourswillnotbethoughtextravagantlyabsurdbyallmenofsense?
