Theprincipalchiefs，togetherwithKabbaRega，assuredmethatAbouSaood’speoplehadbeeninthehabitoftorturingpeopletoextractfromthemthesecretofthespotinwhichtheircornwasconcealed。
ThroughoutUnyorotherearenogranariesexposedatthepresenttime，asthecountryhasbeenravagedbycivilwar；thusallcornisburiedindeepholesspeciallyarrangedforthatpurpose。Whentheslave-hunterssoughtforcorn，theywereinthehabitofcatchingthevillagersandroastingtheirposteriorsbyholdingthemdownonthemouthofalargeearthenwaterjarfilledwithglovingembers。Ifthistortureofroastingalivedidnotextractthesecret，theygenerallycutthesufferer’sthroattoterrifyhiscompanion，whowouldthendivulgethepositionofthehiddenstorestoavoidasimilarfate。ThisaccusationwascorroboratedbyMohammed，theCairodragoman。

Thusmummified，itiswrappedinnewbark-cloths，andliesinstatewithinalargehousebuiltspeciallyforitsreception。
Thesonsfightforthethrone。Thecivilwarmaylastforyears，butduringthisperiodofanarchy，thelateking’sbodyliesstillunburied。
