  foryouwillobserve,thereisnomanwhoworksatanyparticulartrade,butyoumayknowhimfromhisappearancetodoso。Onepartorotherofhisbodybeingmoreusedthantherest,heisinsomedegreedeformed:but,Sir,thatisnotluxury。Atailorsitscross-legged;butthatisnotluxury。’GOLDSMITH。’Come,you’rejustgoingtothesameplacebyanotherroad。’JOHNSON。’Nay,Sir,IsaythatisnotLUXURY。LetustakeawalkfromCharing-

  GOLDSMITH。’Well,Sir,I’llacceptyourchallenge。TheverynextshoptoNorthumberland-houseisapickle-shop。’JOHNSON。’Well,Sir:dowenotknowthatamaidcaninoneafternoonmakepicklessufficienttoserveawholefamilyforayear?nay,thatfivepickle-shopscanserveallthekingdom?Besides,Sir,thereisnoharmdonetoanybodybythemakingofpickles,ortheeatingofpickles。’
