  ThepoorAssembly,becomeGirondistthroughitslatemutilation,strivesinvaintoarrestthedownhillcourseofthings,andmaintain,asithasjustsworntodo,\"theconstitutedauthorities\";[102]itstrives,atleast,toputLouisXVI。intheLuxembourgpalace,toappointatutorfortheDauphin,tokeeptheministerstemporarilyinoffice,andtosaveallprisoners,andthosewhowalkthestreets。
