  NothingisstrangerinthatstrangeStatethantherapiditywithwhichthesoilhaschanged-hands。TheMexicans,youmaysay,areallpoorandlandless,liketheirformercapital;andyetbothitandtheyholdthemselvesapartandpreservetheirancientcustomsandsomethingoftheirancientair。
