  ’There’stheMuseum,’saidCyrilhopefully;’therearelotsofthingsfromyourcountrythere。Ifonlywecoulddisguiseyoualittle。’

  ’Iknow,’saidAntheasuddenly。’Mother’soldtheatrecloak,andtherearealotofheroldhatsinthebigbox。’

  Thebluesilk,lace—trimmedcloakdidindeedhidesomeoftheQueen’sstartlingsplendours,butthehatfittedverybadly。Ithadpinkrosesinit;andtherewassomethingaboutthecoatorthehatortheQueen,thatmadeherlooksomehownotveryrespectable。

  ’Oh,nevermind,’saidAnthea,whenCyrilwhisperedthis。’ThethingistogetheroutbeforeNursehasfinishedherfortywinks。Ishouldthinkshe’saboutgottothethirty—ninthwinkbynow。’

  ’Comeonthen,’saidRobert。’Youknowhowdangerousitis。

  Let’smakehasteintotheMuseum。Ifanyofthosepeopleyoumadeguysofdofetchthepolice,theywon’tthinkoflookingforyouthere。’

  Thebluesilkcoatandthepink—rosedhatattractedalmostasmuchattentionastheroyalcostumehaddone;andthechildrenwereuncommonlygladtogetoutofthenoisystreetsintothegreyquietoftheMuseum。

  ’Parcelsandumbrellastobelefthere,’saidamanatthecounter。

  Thepartyhadnoumbrellas,andtheonlyparcelwasthebagcontainingthePsammead,whichtheQueenhadinsistedshouldbebrought。

  AlltheangrygentlemenhadabruptlysatdownontheMuseumstepsexcepttheniceone。HestoodwithhishandsinhispocketsjustasthoughhewasquiteusedtoseeinggreatstonebullsandallsortsofsmallBabylonishobjectsfloatoutintotheMuseumyard。

  Buthesentamantoclosethebigirongates。

  Ajournalist,whowasjustleavingthemuseum,spoketoRobertashepassed。
