  Butmorethanthatwasneeded。Theheart—breaking,conspiring,underminingtoilofyearsapproachedfruition。Thetimewasripe。TheRevolutionhungonthebalance。Oneshovemore,onelastheroiceffort,anditwouldtrembleacrossthescalestovictory。TheyknewtheirMexico。Oncestarted,theRevolutionwouldtakecareofitself。ThewholeDiazmachinewouldgodownlikeahouseofcards。Theborderwasreadytorise。OneYankee,withahundredI。W。W。men,waitedthewordtocrossovertheborderandbegintheconquestofLowerCalifornia。Butheneededguns。AndclearacrosstotheAtlantic,theJuntaintouchwiththemallandallofthemneedingguns,mereadventurers,soldiersoffortune,bandits,disgruntledAmericanunionmen,socialists,anarchists,rough—necks,Mexicanexiles,peonsescapedfrombondage,whippedminersfromthebull—pensofCoeurd’AleneandColoradowhodesiredonlythemorevindictivelytofight——alltheflotsamandjetsamofwildspiritsfromthemadlycomplicatedmodernworld。Anditwasgunsandammunition,ammunitionandguns——theunceasingandeternalcry。

  TherefereeshovedRiverabackwithonehand,andstoodoverthefallengladiatorcountingtheseconds。Itisthecustomofprize—fightingaudiencestocheeracleanknock—downblow。Butthisaudiencedidnotcheer。Thethinghadbeentoounexpected。

  Again,intheseventh,Dannyachievedthediabolicalinsideuppercut。HesucceededonlyinstaggeringRivera,but,intheensuingmomentofdefenselesshelplessness,hesmashedhimwithanotherblowthroughtheropes。Rivera’sbodybouncedontheheadsofthenewspapermenbelow,andtheyboostedhimbacktotheedgeoftheplatformoutsidetheropes。Hereherestedononeknee,whiletherefereeracedofftheseconds。Insidetheropes,throughwhichhemustducktoenterthering,Dannywaitedforhim。NordidtherefereeinterveneorthrustDannyback。
