  Heenteredtheboathouse,undressed,anddonnedhisbathingsuit。

  Inafewminuteshewasready,and,emerginguponthewharf,walkedbrisklybackalongtheshoreofthecreektowhereitwidenedintothecove。Thereheplungedin,andwassoonluxuriatinginthecool,clearwater。

  Heswamwithlong,confidentstrokes,thoseofapracticedswimmer。

  Thiswasworthwhile。Itwastheoneplacewherehecouldforgetthathewasnolongertheonlysonofawealthyfather,heirtoarespectedname——whichwasNOTBrown——ayoungmanwithallsortsofbrilliantprospects;couldforgetthathewasnowadisinheritedvagabond,aloaferwhohadbeenunabletosecurearespectableposition,anoutcast。Heswamanddoveandsplashed,rejoicinginhisstrengthandyouthandthefreedomofalloutdoors。
