  Theorgan-blower,whowasworkinghismusicalair-pumpwithonehand,andwithtwofingersandathumboftheotherinsinuatingapeeping-placethroughthecurtainoftheorgan-gallery,wasstruckmotionlessbythedoubleoperationofcuriosityandfear;whiletheorganist,intentonlyonhisperformance,andspreadingallhisfingerstostrikeaswellofmagnificentchords,felthisharmonicspiritreadytodeserthisbodyonbeingansweredbytheghastlyrattleofemptykeys,andintheconsequentagitatofuriosooftheinternalmovementsofhisfeelings,waspreparingtorestoreharmonybytheseguesubitoofanappoggiaturaconfocowiththecornerofabookofanthemsontheheadofhisneglectfulassistant,whenhishandandhisattentiontogetherwerearrestedbythescenebelow。
