  Thefurtherprogressofthepoetandthepriest,insearchofcontributionsforrebuildingthechurch,wasrudelyinterruptedbytheRevolutionwhichbrokeoutatParisin1848。HisMajestyLouisPhilippeabdicatedthethroneofFranceonthe24thofFebruary,ratherthancomeintoarmedcollisionwithhissubjects;and,twodaysafter,theRepublicwasofficiallyproclaimedattheHoteldeVille。LouisPhilippeandhisfamilytookrefugeinEngland——theusualretreatofpersecutedFrenchmen;andninemonthslater,LouisNapoleonBuonaparte,whohadalsobeenarefugeeinEngland,returnedtoFrance,andonthe20thofDecemberwasproclaimedPresidentoftheFrenchRepublic。
