Thispiousceremonyended,Bourgointoldthequeenthatinherwillshehadforgottenthreepeople——MesdemoisellesBeauregard,deMontbrun,andherchaplain。Thequeenwasgreatlyastonishedatthisoversight,whichwasquiteinvoluntary,and,takingbackherwill,shewroteherwisheswithrespecttotheminthefirstemptymargin;
thenshekneeleddownagaininprayer;butafteramoment,asshesufferedtoomuchinthisposition,sherose,andBourgoinhavinghadbroughtheralittlebreadandwine,sheateanddrank,andwhenshehadfinished,gavehimherhandandthankedhimforhavingbeenpresenttohelpheratherlastmealashewasaccustomed;andfeelingstronger,shekneeleddownandbegantoprayagain。
Scarcelyhadshedoneso,thantherewasaknockingatthedoor:thequeenunderstoodwhatwasrequiredofher;butasshehadnotfinishedpraying,shebeggedthosewhowerecometofetchhertowaitamoment,andinafewminutes’shewouldbeready。
