  saidMrs。Grant,smiling——“theturkey,andIassureyouaveryfineone;for,mydear,“turningtoherhusband,“cookinsistsupontheturkey’sbeingdressedto-morrow。“

  Thetwocousinswalkedhometogether;and,exceptintheimmediatediscussionofthisengagement,whichEdmundspokeofwiththewarmestsatisfaction,assoparticularlydesirableforherintheintimacywhichhesawwithsomuchpleasureestablished,itwasasilentwalk;

  Therewasnothingmoretobesaid,orthatcouldbesaidtoanypurpose,tillSirThomaswerepresent;

  butthesubjectinvolving,asitdid,herownevening’scomfortforthemorrow,wassomuchuppermostinLadyBertram’smind,thathalfanhourafterwards,onhislookinginforaminuteinhiswayfromhisplantationtohisdressing-room,shecalledhimbackagain,whenhehadalmostclosedthedoor,with“SirThomas,stopamoment——Ihavesomethingtosaytoyou。“

  Hertoneofcalmlanguor,forshenevertookthetroubleofraisinghervoice,wasalwaysheardandattendedto;
