  Thespiritofthissentimentwasrespondedtobyallhands,andweresolvedthatinspiteofthecaptain’scroakingswewouldmakeagloriousdayofit。

  ButTobyandIhadourowngametoplay,andweavailedourselvesoftheconfusionwhichalwaysreignsamongaship’scompanypreparatorytogoingashore,toconfertogetherandcompleteourarrangements。Asourobjectwastoeffectasrapidaflightaspossibletothemountains,wedeterminednottoencumberourselveswithanysuperfluousapparel;andaccordingly,whiletherestwereriggingthemselvesoutwithsomeideaofmakingadisplay,wewerecontenttoputonnewstoutducktrousers,serviceablepumps,andheavyHavrefrocks,which,withaPaytahat,completedourequipment。
