  “WhoartthouwhodarestcomeupwithfireagainsttheholyTempleoftheHathor?“askedtheguardianofthegates。

  “IamMeriamun,theQueenofKhem,“sheanswered,“comewiththewomenofTanistoslaytheWitchthouguardest。Throwthegateswide,ordiewiththeWitch。“

  “NowthereissurelyanendoftheWitch,“criedMeriamun,andthewomenscreamedananswertoher。

  “WillyebringflametoburnmyShrineWhoammyselfaflame,BringdeathtotamethischarmofmineThatdeathcannevertame?

  WillyebringfiretoharmmyheadWhoammyselfafire,BringvengeanceforyourLoversdeadUpontheWorld’sDesire?

  Shemountedthechariot,andhesethimselfbesideher。Thenhegraspedthereinsandcalledtothehorses,andtheyboundedforwardandwerelostinthenight。

  ButMeriamuncriedinherwrath:

  “TheWitchisgone,gonewithmyownservantwhomshehathledastray。

  Bringchariots,andlethorsemencomewiththechariots,forwhereshepassesthereIwillfollow,ay,totheendoftheworldandthecoastofDeath。“
