  Sohavingdespatchedamessagetomyfriendthecaptainofthe’Adventuress,’thatIhadfreightofvalueforhim,ImademypreparationstodepartfromSevillewithsuchspeedasImight,andtothisendIsoldmybenefactor’shouse,withmanyoftheeffects,atapricemuchbelowtheirworth。

  Themostofthebooksandplate,togetherwithsomeotherarticles,Ikept,andpackingthemincases,IcausedthemtobetransporteddowntherivertoCadiz,tothecareofthosesameagentstowhomIhadreceivedlettersfromtheYarmouthmerchants。

  ThisbeingdoneIfollowedthithermyself,takingthebulkofmyfortunewithmeingold,whichIhidartfullyinnumerouspackages。

  Whatpleasedmemore,however,wasthathehadthreelettersforme,onefrommyfather,onefrommysisterMary,andonefrommybetrothed,LilyBozard,theonlyletterIeverreceivedfromher。

  Thecontentsofthesewritingswerenotaltogetherpleasinghowever,forIlearnedfromthemthatmyfatherwasinbrokenhealthandalmostbedridden,andindeed,thoughIdidnotknowitformanyyearsafter,hediedinDitchinghamChurchupontheverydaythatIreceivedhisletter。
