  ThisisabriefsynopsisofBoiardo\'swork,omittingmostofthenumerousdigressionsandincidentalepisodesassociatedwiththeseevents:

  TothecourtofKingCharlemagnecomesAngelicadaughtertothekingofCathay,orIndiaandherbrotherArgalia。AngelicaisthemostbeautifulwomananyofthePeershaveeverseen,andallwanther。However,inordertotakeheraswifetheymustfirstdefeatArgaliaincombat。ThetwomoststrickenbyherareOrlandoandRanaldo“Rinaldo“inRose。

  WhenArgaliafallstotheheathenknightFerrau,Angelicaflees——withOrlandoandRanaldoinhotpursuit。Alongtheway,bothAngelicaandRanaldodrinkmagicwaters——AngelicaisfilledwithaburningloveforRanaldo,butRanaldoisnowindifferent。
