  Remark,asathingworthremarking,that,althoughShelley\'sdictionisatothertimessingularlyrich,itceasesinthesepoemstoberich,ortoobtrudeitselfatall;itisimperceptible;hisMusehasbecomeaveritableEcho,whosebodyhasdissolvedfromabouthervoice。Indeed,whenhisdictionisrichest,neverthelessthepoetrysodominatestheexpressionthatwefeelthelatteronlyasanatmosphereuntilwearesatiatedwiththeformer;thenwediscoverwithsurprisetohowimperialavesturewehadbeenblindedbygazingonthefaceofhissong。Alesson,this,deservingtobeconnedbyagenerationsooppositeintendencyasourown:alessonthatinpoetry,asintheKingdomofGod,weshouldnottakethoughttoogreatlywherewithweshallbeclothed,butseekfirst{9}thespirit,andallthesethingswillbeaddeduntous。

  ItmaybethoughtthatinourcasualcommentsonShelley\'slifewehavebeenblindtoitsevilside。That,however,isnotthecase。
