8。Theherbwhichhasgotthenameoflagopyrus，fillsuphollowandcleanulcers；（whendrieditresembleswheat；ithasasmallleaflikethatoftheolive，andmorelong；）andtheleafofhorehound，withoil。Another:-Theinternalfattypart，resemblinghoney，ofafigmuchdried，ofwatertwoparts，oflinseednotmuchtoastedandfinelylevigated，onepart。Another:-Ofthedriedfig，oftheflowerofcopperlevigatedalittle，andthejuiceofthefig。Thepreparationfromdriedfig:-Theblackchamaeleon，thedriedgallofanox，theotherthingsthesame。Ofthepowders:-Oftheslendercressinarawstate，ofhorehound，ofeachequalparts；ofthedriedfig，twoparts；
oflinseed，twoparts；thejuiceofthefig。Whenyouuseanyofthesemedicines，applyaboveitcompresseswettedinvinegar，applyaspongeaboutthecompressesandmakeaIfthesurroundingpartsbeinaninflamedstate，applytothemanymedicinewhichmayappearsuitable。
9。Ifyouwishtousealiquidapplication，themedicinecalledcaricummayberubbedin，andthebandagesmaybeappliedasformerlydescribeduponthesameprinciple。Themedicineispreparedofthefollowingingredients:-Ofblackhellebore，ofsandarach，oftheflakesofcopper，ofleadwashed，withmuchsulphur，arsenic，andcantharides。Thismaybecompoundedsoasmaybejudgedmostproper，anditistobedilutedwithoilofjuniper。Whenenoughhasbeenrubbedin，layasidethemedicine，andapplyboiledwakerobininasoftstate，eitherrubbingitindry，ormoisteningitwithhoney。Butifyouusethecaricuminadrystate，youmustabstainfromthesethings，andsprinklethemedicineonthesore。Thepowderfromhelleboreandsandarachaloneanswers。Anotherliquidmedicine:-Theherb，theleafofwhichresemblesthearum（wakerobin）innature，butiswhite，downy，ofthesizeoftheivy-leaf:thisherbisappliedwithwine，orthesubstancewhichformsuponthebranchesoftheilex，whenpoundedwithwine，istobeapplied。Another:-Thejuiceofthegrape，thestrongestvinegar，theflowerofcopper，natron，thejuiceofthewildfig-tree。Alum，themostfinelylevigated，istobeputintothejuiceofthewildgrape，anditistobeputintoaredbronzemortarandstirredinthesun，andremovedwhenitappearstohaveattainedproperconsistence。
10。Theseareotherpowders:-Blackhellebore，asfinelylevigatedaspossible，istobesprinkledonthesorewhileanyhumidityremainsaboutit，andwhileitcontinuestospread。Thebandagingisthesameaswhenplastersareused。Another，inlikemanner:-Thedriestlumpsofsaltaretobeputintoacopper，orearthenpot，ofequalsize，asmuchaspossible，andnotlarge，andthefinesthoney，ofdoublethesizeofthesalt，asfarascanbeguessed，istobepoureduponthelumpsofsalt，thenthevesselistobeputuponcoalsandallowedtositthereuntilthewholeisconsumed。Then，havingspongedtheulcerandcleansedit，bandageitasbefore，andcompressitalittlemore。Nextday，whereverthemedicinehasnotbeentakenin，sprinkleiton，pressitdown，andbandage。Butwhenyouwishtoremovethemedicine，pourinhotvinegaruntilitseparate，andagaindothesamethings，spongingitaway，ifnecessary。Anothercorrosivepowder:-Ofthemostfinely-levigatedmisy，sprinkleuponthemoistandgangrenousparts，andalittleoftheflowerofcopper，notaltogetherlevigated。Anotherpowderequallycorrosive:-Havingspongedtheulcer，burnthemostgreasywooluponashellplacedonthefireuntilthewholebeconsumed；havingreducedthistoafinepowder，andsprinkleditonthesore，applythebandageinthesamemanner。Anotherpowderforthesameulcers:-Theblackchamaeleon，whenpreparedwiththejuiceofthefig。Itistobepreparedroasted，andalkanetmixedwithit。Or，pimpernel，andEgyptianalumroasted，andsprinkleonthemtheOrchomenianpowder。Forspreadingulcers:-Alum，boththeEgyptianroasted，andtheMelian；butthepartistobefirstcleansedwithroastednatronandsponged；andthespeciesofalumcalledchalcitisroasted。Itistoberoasteduntilitcatchfire。
