AbouSaood，whohadreceivedpermissiontogotoKhartoum，hadonlygonedowntheriverasfarashisstationattheBohr。TherehehadmadearrangementswithhispeoplethattheivoryfromLatookastation，100
mileseastofGondokoro，shouldavoidmyhead-quarters，andbeconveyedbyanobliquecoursetotheBohr。Bythisswindle，thegovernmentwouldbecheatedoutoftheshareoftwo-fifthsoftheivorywhichbelongedtothembycontractwithAgad&Co。

ThiswasthefirsttimeinthecareerofAbouSaoodthathehadevertravelledinland。HehadformanyyearsbeeninthehabitofarrivingatGondokorofromKhartoumwiththeannualvesselsfromAgad&Co。，bringingnewleviesofbrigandstogetherwithfreshsuppliesofarmsandammunition。HethenremainedatGondokoroforseveralweeks，andreceivedtheivoryandslavescollectedfromhisvariousstationsintheinteriorwithwhichhereturnedtoKhartoum。
