  Theywent,humbleyethappy,sinceherewasaPharaohwhoknewtheneedsofEgypt,onetoowholovedherandwhoalonehadshownhimselfwiseofheartwhileotherswerefilledwithmadness。ThenherHighnessentered,splendidlyapparelled,crownedandfollowedbyherhousehold,andmadeobeisance。

  “GreetingtoPharaoh,“shecried。

  “GreetingtotheRoyalPrincessofEgypt,“heanswered。

  “Nay,Pharaoh,theQueenofEgypt。“

  BySeti’ssidetherewasanotherthrone,thatinwhichhehadsetdeadMerapiwithacrownuponherhead。Heturnedandlookedatitawhile。

  Then,hesaid:

  “Iseethatthisseatisempty。LettheQueenofEgypttakeherplacethereifsoshewills。“

  Shestaredathimasifshethoughtthathewasmad,thoughdoubtlessshehadheardsomethingofthatstory,thensweptupthestepsandsatherselfdownintheroyalchair。

  “YourMajestyhasbeenlongabsent,“saidSeti。

  “Yes,“sheanswered,“butasmyMajestypromisedshewoulddo,shehasreturnedtoherlawfulplaceatthesideofPharaoh——nevertoleaveitmore。“

  “PharaohthanksherMajesty,“saidSeti,bowinglow。

  Somesixyearshadgoneby,whenonenightIwasseatedwiththePharaohSetiMeneptahinhispalaceatMemphis,fortherehealwayschosetodwellwhenmattersofStateallowed。
