  ThesightseemedtomaddenLaban,whorushedforwardtotearherfromhisarms,andintheattemptjostledhisHighness。Thecaptainofthesoldiers——hewasanofficerofPharaoh’sbodyguard——liftedhisswordinafuryandstruckLabansuchablowupontheheadwiththeflatofthebladethathefelluponhisfaceandlaytheregroaning。

  “AwaywiththatHebrewdogandscourgehim!“criedthecaptain。“IstheroyalbloodofEgypttobehandledbysuchashe?“

  Soldierssprangforwardtodohisbidding,butSetisaidquietly:

  “Letthefellowbe,friends;helacksmanners,thatisall。Ishehurt?“

  AshespokeLabanleapttohisfeetand,fearingworsethings,fledawaywithacurseandaglareofhateatthePrince。
