  Hespoketoahandsomegirlwithlustrousdarkhairandeyes,andveryneatlydressed,whorepliedwithahalfcurtseyasshepassedoffinthetrainofMrsMeaglesandPet。Theycrossedthebarescorchedterraceallthreetogether,anddisappearedthroughastaringwhitearchway。MrMeagles’scompanion,agravedarkmanofforty,stillstoodlookingtowardsthisarchwayaftertheyweregone;untilMrMeaglestappedhimonthearm。
