Rosawashappy,ifeverwomancouldbesaidtobeso。Shehadnotlearntthefateofherfather,andsometimeswondered——perhapswithasenseofrelief——whyhedidnotwritetoherfromhissupposedhomeinCanada。HerbrotherJoshuahadbeenpresentedtoalivinginasmalltown,shortlyafterhermarriage,andCorneliushadthereuponsucceededtothevacantcuracyofNarrobourne。
