  Hewasgreatlyastonishedtofindmeatoncesoreasonableandsoaptatreasoning;buthemademeasolemnpromise,afterwhichItookhishandandpresseditaffectionately。

  Weweremarriedattheendoftheweek。Secureofmyfreedom,Iwasabletothrowmyselfgailyintothepettydetailswhichalwaysaccompanyaceremonyofthekind,andtobemynaturalself。PerhapsI

  mayhavebeentakenforanoldbird,astheysayatBlois。Ayounggirl,delightedwiththenovelandhopefulsituationshehadcontrivedtomakeforherself,andmayhavepassedforastrong-mindedfemale。

  Yet,inspiteofallthisenchantment,Ioncemorestoodoutformycompleteindependence。Ican’ttellyouallmyreasonsforthis。ToyoualoneshallIconfideevenasmuchasthis。Ibelievethatwomen,whetherpassionatelylovedornot,losemuchintheirrelationwiththeirhusbandsbynotconcealingtheirfeelingsaboutmarriageandthewaytheylookatit。

  Myonejoy,anditissupreme,springsfromthecertaintyofhavingbroughtnewlifetomyhusbandbeforeIhavebornehimanychildren。
