Thisinflowofmoneyedmenfromthecountryresultedintheestablishmentofa“seminaryoflearning“onthehillside,wheretheSoldiers’Homewastobelocated。Thiscalledinmorefarmersfromthecountry,andanewhotelwasbuilt,asash-and-doorfactoryfollowed,andBurtMcPhailsetupafeedmill。
Anthisimprovementunquestionablydated,fromtheopeningofthebank,andthemostunreasonmgpartisansofthebankerheldhimtobethechiefcauseoftheresultingdevelopmentofthetown,thoughhehimselfmodestlydisclaimedanyhandintheaffair。
