  messengertoabigfirmintheStation。SuddhoosaysthatGodwillmakemeaLieutenant-Governoroneofthesedays。Idaresayhisprophecywillcometrue。Heisvery,veryold,withwhitehairandnoteethworthshowing,andhehasoutlivedhiswits——outlivednearlyeverythingexcepthisfondnessforhissonatPeshawar。

  Suddhoo’ssonatPeshawarwasattackedbypleurisy,andoldSuddhoowastroubled。Theseal-cuttermanheardofSuddhoo’sanxietyandmadecapitaloutofit。Hewasabreastofthetimes。HegotafriendinPeshawartotelegraphdailyaccountsoftheson’shealth。
