  begantothinkofmyoldtrade,andtolookabroadintothe

  streetagain;andmyfirststepwasluckyenough。

  Ihaddressedmyselfupinaverymeanhabit,forasIhad

  severalshapestoappearin,Iwasnowinanordinarystuff-gown,

  ablueapron,andastrawhatandIplacedmyselfatthedoor

  oftheThreeCupsInninSt。JohnStreet。

  Therewereseveral

  carriersusedtheinn,andthestage-coachesforBarnet,for

  Totteridge,andothertownsthatwaystoodalwaysinthestreet

  intheevening,whentheypreparedtosetout,sothatIwas

  readyforanythingthatoffered,foreitheroneorother。
