　　but，nevertheless，theexceptionwasmade，andisstillcontinuedinfavoroftheBoers，whiletheBechuanasandGriquas，ourconstantfriends，aredebarredfromobtainingasingleounceforeitherdefenseortrade；indeed，suchwasthestateofignoranceastotherelationofthebordertribeswiththeEnglish，evenatCapeTown，thatthemagistrates，thoughwillingtoaidmyresearches，weresorelyafraidtoallowmetopurchasemorethantenpoundsofgunpowder，lesttheBechuanasshouldtakeitfrommebyforceAsitturnedout，IactuallyleftmorethanthatquantityforupwardoftwoyearsinanopenboxinmywagonatLinyanti。
