  Hismannerwasthefree,friendlymanneroftheWest。HemustbethatsortofuntravelledAmericanwhomMarchhadsoseldommet,buthewasafraidtoaskhimifthiswashisfirsttimeatCarlsbad,lestitshouldprovethethirdorfourth。“Areyoutakingthecure?”heaskedinstead。
