Afteralongconversationwiththecommandant，IobtainedpermissiontogothenextdaytoGeneralRolor，whocommandedadivisionoftherebelsonthissidethecapital。InthemorningIrodetotheencampment。Thegeneral，officers，andsoldiers，allappeared，andIbelievereallywere，greatvillains。Thegeneral，theveryeveningbeforeheleftthecity，voluntarilywenttotheGovernor，andwithhishandtohisheart，pledgedhiswordofhonourthatheatleastwouldremainfaithfultothelast。
