Thoughmoneypassesforapledgeinexchangeitdoesnotmultiplyitselforbegetaninterestinsimplecirculation。Theneedsofmanseemtohaveintroducedtheusageofinterest。Amanwholendshismoneyongoodsecurityoronmortgagerunsatleasttheriskoftheillwilloftheborrower,orofexpenses,lawsuitsandlosses。Butwhenhelendswithoutsecurityherunstheriskoflosingeverything。Forthisreasonneedymenmustinthebeginninghavetemptedlendersbythebaitofaprofit。Andthisprofitmusthavebeenproportionatetotheneedsoftheborrowersandthefearandavariceofthelenders。Thisseemstometheoriginofinterest。ButitsconstantusageinstatesseemsbasedupontheprofitswhichtheUndertakerscanmakeoutofit。
Thelandnaturallyproduces,aidedbyhumanlabour,4,10,20,50,100,150timestheamountofcornsownuponit,accordingtothefertilityofthesoilandtheindustryoftheinhabitants。
Itmultipliesfruitsandcattle。Thefarmerwhoconductstheworkingofithasgenerallytwothirdsoftheproduce,onethirdpayshisexpensesandupkeep,theotherremainsfortheprofitofhisenterprise。
