  AndthisnightshewaswonderingwhoLadyChatterley’sloverwas。AndshewasthinkingofherownTed,solongdead,yetforherneverquitedead。Andwhenshethoughtofhim,theold,oldgrudgeagainsttheworldroseup,butespeciallyagainstthemasters,thattheyhadkilledhim。

  Theyhadnotreallykilledhim。Yet,toher,emotionally,theyhad。Andsomewheredeepinherselfbecauseofit,shewasanihilist,andreallyanarchic。

  Inherhalf-sleep,thoughtsofherTedandthoughtsofLadyChatterley’sunknownlovercommingled,andthenshefeltshesharedwiththeotherwomanagreatgrudgeagainstSirCliffordandallhestoodfor。Atthesametimeshewasplayingpiquetwithhim,andtheyweregamblingsixpences。Anditwasasourceofsatisfactiontobeplayingpiquetwithabaronet,andevenlosingsixpencestohim。
