sothatthecaftanandturban,thoughtodrivebothfromtheHolyLandwastheprofessedobjectoftheexpedition,wereneverthelessneitheranuncommonnoranalarmingsightinthecampoftheCrusaders。When,however,thelittleinsignificantfigurewehavedescribedapproachedsonighastoreceivesomeinterruptionfromthewarders,hedashedhisduskygreenturbanfromhishead,showedthathisbeardandeyebrowswereshavedlikethoseofaprofessedbuffoon,andthattheexpressionofhisfantasticandwrithenfeatures,aswellasofhislittleblackeyes,whichglitteredlikejet,wasthatofacrazedimagination。

Themarabout,asifhappytodotheirbehests,boundedfromtheearth,andspunhisgiddyroundbeforethemwithsingularagility,which,whencontrastedwithhisslightandwastedfigure,anddiminutiveappearance,madehimresembleawitheredleaftwirledroundandaroundatthepleasureofthewinter’sbreeze。
