Now，togofromoneimportantsubjecttoanother，Imustaccountformyownlaziness，whichIdobyreferringyoutoasmallanonymoussortofanovel，inthreevolumes，Waverley，whichyouwillreceivebythemailofthisday。ItwasaveryoldattemptofminetoembodysometraitsofthosecharactersandmannerspeculiartoScotland，thelastremnantsofwhichvanishedduringmyownyouth，sothatfewornotracesnowremain。
